However, despite this general assurance, there were still questions regarding the migration mechanisms for some specific games, including "Animal Crossing: New Horizons," which had special rules associated with its release in 2020. These "special rules" are related to the game's core island mechanics. Nintendo had previously made it clear that the island data for each Switch console is independent. In simple terms, each console is associated with a unique island, and players are unable to create a new island by "resetting" and cannot transfer their islands to other Switches, whether for a console replacement or to show off to friends.

Now, there is good news. Nintendo has confirmed that players can migrate their island data for "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" to the Nintendo Switch 2. Takahiro Domita, Nintendo's technical director, explained to Polygon, "It should be noted that during the system migration, all save data will be retained on the original Switch console while also being transferred to the Switch 2. However, the 'Animal Crossing' island data migration is of a physical nature, meaning it will be completely transferred from the original Switch to the new console."
