Data released this week by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) shows that its development programs reached historic heights last year. Covering 133 countries, these programs benefited nearly 37,000 people and contributed to a record number of athletes participating in the Paris Paralympic Games.

These programs, specifically designed for IPC member organizations, support athletes, coaches, and technical officials, focusing on three core pillars: athletes, leadership, and participation. Notably, 7,430 Paralympic athletes received support for their sports careers through talent identification, competition opportunities, and access to mentors, coaches, and classifiers.

Recognizing that the success of Paralympic athletes depends on the dedication of leaders and other change - makers in the Paralympic movement, the IPC implemented various initiatives through National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) and international federations to nurture talent. In 2024, a total of 5,400 individuals underwent leadership training in the Paralympic movement, equipping them with the skills to lay the foundation for sports development and create pathways to competitive success.

To enable people with disabilities to engage in the Paralympic movement in the way they desire, whether for leisure or competition, the IPC also supported activities that attracted 20,000 participants.

Kristina Molloy, the IPC's Chief Membership and Impact Officer, stated, "We firmly believe that the Paralympic movement serves as a bridge to a more inclusive world. Over the past decade, the IPC has invested record - breaking amounts of funds into member development programs each year, aiming to expand and diversify the talent pool of the Paralympic movement. The current achievements are remarkable, and we are confident that even greater success lies ahead."
